When the immune system is challenged by an antigen, multiple B-cells are activated. Each B-cell will target a different antigenic factor (epitope) on the antigen molecule, this results in a large amount of antibodies being produced all targeting different specific epitopes of the same antigen, these antibodies are referred to as polyclonal and are generally purified from the serum of an immunised host animal. Polyclonal antibodies can be raised in any of the common mammalian and avian hosts but are generally raised in the larger host animals such as rabbits and goats for increased antiserum production. Compared to monoclonals, polyclonal antibodies are cheaper to produce in larger quantities over a shorter timescale. Fitzgerald Industries catalog of monoclonal antibodies contains more than 15,000 highly purified, highly specific polyclonal antibodies for use in, ELISA , immunofluorescence ,western blotting, IHC, flow cytometry and much more. Polyclonal antibodies are often the best choice for the detection of proteins of interest and can give better results in IP and IHC. Due to multiple epitopes recognition polyclonal antibodies can help amplify the signal of proteins with low expression levels. We supply polyclonal antibodies covering all main areas of research and diagnostics including neuroscience, cancer, immunology and more and we have particular expertise in the area of infectious disease and viral antigen antibodies. Our range of polyclonals are available from all commonly used host species in purified forms or conjugated to with tags and labels such as biotin, fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), horseradish peroxidase (HRP), alkaline phosphate and others. Our catalog of polyclonal antibodies is available in bulk quantities or smaller sizes and is continuously updated with new targets and specific host/titre/purity/conjugate configurations to meet your needs so please do not hesitate to contact us with your specific requirements.
