ELISA kit for the detection of 9 alpha, 11 beta PGF2 alpha in the research laboratory |
Background |
Prostaglandin F2 alpha (PGF2a in prostanoid nomenclature) is a naturally occurring prostaglandin used in medicine to induce labor and as an abortifacient. In domestic mammals, it is produced by the uterus when stimulated by oxytocin, in the event that there has been no implantation during the follicular phase. It acts on the corpus luteum to cause luteolysis, forming a corpus albicans and stopping the production of progesterone. Action of PGF2a is dependent on the number of receptors on the corpus luteum membrane. The PGF2a isoform 8isoPGF2a was found in significantly increased amounts in patients with endometriosis, thus being a potential causative link in endometriosis-associated oxidative stress. |

Assay Information |
This 9 alpha,11 betaProstaglandin F kit is a competitive immunoassay for the determination of 9 alpha,11 betaProstaglandin F2 in biological fluids. Please read the complete kit insert before performing this assay. The kit uses a polyclonal antibody to 9 alpha,11 betaPGF to bind, in a competitive manner, 9 alpha,11 betaPGF2 in a sample or an alkaline phosphatase molecule which has 9 alpha,11 betaPGF covalently attached to it. After a simultaneous incubation at room temperature the excess reagents are washed away and substrate is added. After a short incubation time the enzyme reaction is stopped and the yellow color generated is read on a microplate reader at 405nm. The intensity of the bound yellow color is inversely proportional to the concentration of 9 alpha,11 betaPGF in either standards or samples. The measured optical density is used to calculate the concentration of 9 alpha,11 betaPGF. |
