Red blood cells contain haemoglobin, a complex iron containing protein that carries oxygen through the body and release it through the capillaries. For every 600 red blood cells, there are about 40 platelets and one white cell.
Manufactured in the bone marrow, red blood cells are covered with a membrane composed of lipids and proteins and lack a nucleus. Red blood cells are constantly produced in the bone marrow andlast for approximately 120 days in the circulatory system before being broken down and recycled. RBCs are prepared from whole blood by removing plasma, the liquid portion of the blood.
Fitzgerald industries offers high quality glutaraldehyde-stabilized freshly prepared Goat Red Blood Cells for research use. The native antigenicity of the RBCs has been preserved by the glutaraldehyde buffer making the cells stable and longer lasting. We also offer Goat Red Blood Cell antibodies such Goat RBC antibody as well as versions of this antibody conjugated to fluorophores for use in FACS and immunofluorescence based assays - Goat RBC antibody (FITC) and Goat RBC antobody (Texas Red).
