Flow Cytometry antibodies
Flow Cytometry (FC/FACS) is an important technique used for counting microscopic particles such as antibodies, antigens, viral proteins, cancer cells and chromosomes while simultaneously measuring their physical properties.
Flow Cytometry operates by suspending a sample of interest in a stream of fluid and passing the solution through an electronic detection apparatus, where the scattering of light by individual particles is measured by detectors, this allows simultaneous multiparametric analysis of the physical and/or chemical characteristics of thousands of particles per second. Conjugation of targets of interest such as antibodies and proteins to colorimetric or fluorimetric tags can greatly enhance the accuracy and specificity of this process.
One of the other major advantages of Flow Cytometry is that it also allows antibodies and proteins to be physically sorted by properties such as size or molecular weight, allowing for the purification of targets of interest from a fluid sample.
Flow Cytometry is widely used in medical diagnosis, especially in cancer diagnosis, but has many other applications in the research and diagnostic fields due to its ability to quickly measure multiple parameters on individual targets.
