General Information

Biological Significance C-reactive protein (CRP) is a protein found in the blood, the levels of which rise in response to inflammation (i.e. C-reactive protein is an acute-phase protein). Its physiological role is to bind to phosphocholine expressed on the surface of dead or dying cells (and some types of bacteria) in order to activate the complement system via the C1Q complex.

Comments As suggested by Fitzgerald, for one of our sandwich immunoassays, we typically use CRP protein 30C-CP1000U with 10-C33A as the capturing antibody and 10-C33C as the detection antibody.

This combination works great because the binding is very strong and we are able to measure very low limits of detections. In the image provided, an array of agarose beads is used as a support for the sandwich immunoassay of CRP as captured by fluorescently labeled anti-CRP with Alexa Fluor 488.
