General Information

Biological Significance C-reactive protein (CRP) is a protein found in the blood, the levels of which rise in response to inflammation (i.e. C-reactive protein is an acute-phase protein). Its physiological role is to bind to phosphocholine expressed on the surface of dead or dying cells (and some types of bacteria) in order to activate the complement system via the C1Q complex.

Comments C-Reactive Protein (CRP) is a clinically relevant biomarker linked to cardiovascular disease and we developed several sandwich immunoassays to measure this protein in bodily fluids.

For the past 7 years, we have purchased this product from Fitzgerald and it always works as advertised, providing us with consistent results.

As suggested by Fitzgerald, for one of our sandwich immunoassays, we typically pair it with product 10-C33A clone M701289 as the capturing antibody and product 10-C33C clone M701289 as the detection antibody. This combination works great because the binding is very strong and we are able to measure very low limits of detections. In the image provided, an array of agarose beads is used as a support for the sandwich immunoassay of CRP as captured by fluorescently labeled anti-CRP with Alexa Fluor 488.

Furthermore, we also wanted to comment on the purity. We have also studied binding kinetics using BIAcore instrumentation which requires highly pure samples, and we found that this product was indeed very pure and did not require additional purification steps.
