Usage & Assay Information

Bioactivity 20-22 units/mg - One unit of activity is defined as the amount of enzyme that hydrolyzes one micromole of Meo-suc-ala-pro-val-pNA per minute at 25o C in 100 mM Tris-HCl, pH 7.5, with 500 mM NaCl.

Storage & Safety

Storage Aliquot and store at -20 deg C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Biohazard Information Donor samples were tested and found to be negative for HBsAg, anti-HCV, anti-HBc, and negative for anti-HIV 1 & 2. Nonetheless caution should be used when handling this material as there is a margin of error in all tests.

Biological Significance Elastase degrades elastin, collagen, and proteoglycan and has been implicated in the development of pulmonary emphesema and rheumatoid arthritis.
