|Biological Significance||The hepatitis B virus (HBV) protein HBx has been reported to induce liver cancer in transgenic mice and transactivates a variety of viral and cellular promoters. HBx protein is detected early and frequently in hepatitis B infection. HBx is able to bind to singlestranded DNA and RNA as well as several cellular proteins including p53 and other transcription factors.|
